Casey's Teaching
With over 20 years of professional experience in performing, teaching, and recording, Casey brings a uniquely diverse skillset to string education. Her musical background spans Klezmer, Celtic, jazz, bluegrass, old-time, metal, rock, folk, and classical music. Beyond private instruction, she has coached string bands, fiddle clubs, chamber ensembles, and both adult and youth orchestras. She also teaches children’s violin and fiddle classes for Colorado nonprofit Off the Hook Arts.
Casey is known for blending sounds and techniques from different traditions in both her playing and teaching. As an instructor, she emphasizes a strong technical foundation that maximizes the diversity of musical opportunities open to students. As technique develops, lessons are tailored to students’ individual goals, with personalized curricula designed to inspire growth. In addition to violin, Casey offers instruction in mandolin, guitar, and banjo.
Casey studied string pedagogy at Colorado State University and is pursuing a teaching certificate from CSU’s Institute for Learning and Teaching.
Lessons
Students can choose between 30-, 45-, and 60-minute lessons, with the option to participate in recitals. While Casey’s private studio primarily focuses on one-on-one instruction, small group lessons may also be offered depending on interest and availability.
Lessons typically take place in Casey’s home under the supervision of educational support cats Pancake and Pierre. Instruction balances learning aurally (“by ear”) with reading music, and covers not only technique but also improvisation, ensemble playing, performance, music theory, and composition.
